UPDATE 9/8/2012

I added the current SAN Diego Guide 2012. It is in PDF format. Goto  the PLAN of the DAY Tab

look on the right side of the page under LINKS. It is large (20 MB) so it might take some time to load. It would be better to download it and read it offline

if you have a slow internet connection.

Also  I am posting a list of all the people that have sent me their forms and or have told me that they are attending. It is current as of today 9/8/12. It also is in PDF format

    Greetings, to All!

Due to our German-American Grand Daughter’s graduation (double Masters’ from Bonn University and University of Aberdeen) celebration in Irvine, CA and Durango, CO; Sue and I deeply regret that we will be unable to attend the wonderful VP-40 Reunion in San Diego, CA as scheduled. The family graduation celebrations will take place during the scheduled VP-40 Reunion days, and shortly thereafter, we all head up to Durango, CO for several weeks.

Guy Fisk, and so many others, have worked hard to put the Reunion together. Bravo Zulu! I had looked forward to meeting our former shipmates after so many years of our respective journeys. Thank you Guy, for all that you have done to bring this Reunion together.

As our VP-40 shipmates’ ranks become more reduced and more challenging each passing year; it is important to honor, remember and respect all those fine young men who kept our P5Ms airworthy around the clock, and those aircrew who trusted the young and untested pilots over the South China Seas, to get the mission done and get them home again. The dedication and hard, hard work in the sweaty, hot and blistering sun of NAS Sangley Point, and other duty stations, where those aircrew and ground crew maintainers labored, is not ever forgotten. The leadership of our CPO’s, Senior Petty Officers and our Aviation Strikers and many more, did the hard work to keep the aircrews safe and ready. There is no means to repay these men for what they did under the most challenging of conditions; except to state we thank you, we deeply respect you and we
honor you for all that you achieved to keep us safe and ready. And get home again.

The late and beloved LCPO Frank Humphreys taught me more about basic leadership and fairness, than most any other individual in VP-40. The late CAPT Jack Clinton taught all of us what great leadership can produce under very challenging circumstances. To these two fine men, I owe a debt which can never be fully repaid. They, and others, shaped the lives of officers and men alike for the future. The best gift we can bestow upon them and honor so many of our VP-40 shipmates, past and present, is to bequeath the ethics and leadership we learned while we served VP-40, our Naval Forces and our Great Country; and pass those qualities on to our families, our friends and our communities as well. That is the legacy by which to permanently honor our shipmates and the most fond memories of those no longer among us.

Best regards to each and every one attending the VP-40 Reunion and to those who could not attend. Go Navy!
