Posted by on March 6, 2017

I received this email last week from  Hal Peper <hpeper@gasanalyzers.com>

Subject: Wilbur 3pm   3/1/2017

Wilbur Bettis underwent major arterial surgery for 12 hrs.  two and a half weeks ago at UCLA.  He has remained in ICU since then. His sister Trish just sent me a message that he  passed away while holding her hand an hour ago. I will keep all of you informed as I learn more.        Hal

I am waiting to get an Obit for Bill and I will post it here.

Bill was a great person and I am sad to hear of his passing.

My dad flew on b-24 in italy and my uncle was one of only two american test pilots in england during ww2 at that time. They never talked about the war ,so when I heard about the resturaunt Mr. Bettius gave me a personel tour of his place and of all the memorbilia inside. I can’t tell you what it meant to me and to see, and have someone explain to me what a rare collection that was inside. It was a museum and like going back in time with all the real stories that went with it. There will never be a place like that again. What a great restaurant and a great man.

I’m so sad because Bill’s career at the Nieuport 17 really created happy times for me. He is missed. I will always hold him and his restaurant in my heart. What a guy!!!!!

Thanks, everyone, for helping puzzle-piece his Obituary together. Being 19 years younger than Bill, I’m finding myself in over my head and out of my element.

Has there been a service for Bill or is there going to be one? He was a part of life for many of us!
