I was informed by Herb Montgomery that another member pased away.

Leon Peachie  passed away on 9/23/2013. He was an AO1 and in VP40 from 1952-1953.

I will post his obituary when I receive it.

September 11,2001  is a day that most Americans remember where they were when the terrorists attacked us.

I was in the BOS ARTCC (the FAA long range radar facility ) located in Nashua, NH. We were having our morning regional outage report telcom.  The Air Traffic Controller supervisor

for that airspace sector came up and asked for the key to the “tape room” (the FAA records ALL radio conversations both ground and airborne ). He thought there was a HiJacking taking place over New York.

It turns out he was correct and then ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. It was a very busy day from that moment on.

It is like the day when John F. Kennedy got shot. Most people remember where they were then also. I was  in VP40 at Sangley Point when it happened.

It was nighttime over there.

Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance – September 11
We would like to take a moment to send our thoughts and prayers to the many families & friends who lost loved ones in the 9/11 attacks. They will be remembered always.
We additionally would like to express our deepest respect and gratitude to the Courage, Bravery and Patriotism of all our Veterans, active Military, firefighter & police heroes. We thank & salute you for all that you have done to protect the American people & our great nation.

Let Patriotism prevail and our American Eagle fly free and graceful. To our fallen brothers and sisters, and 9/11 victims, we give a moment of silence.

Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance – September 11
Since the first Patriot Day on September 11, 2002, Patriot Day, now titled: Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance honors & remembers the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on our nation on September 11, 2001.

On October 25, 2001 – a vote of 407-0 approved U.S. House Joint Resolution 71 – which stated that the President designate September 11 of each year as “Patriot Day.” President George W. Bush signed the resolution into law on December 18, 2001 (as Public Law 107-89). Patriot Day is a discretionary day of remembrance. On April 21, 2009, (Public Law 111-13) was approved where September 11 is annually recognized as a “National Day of Service and Remembrance.” On September 10, 2012, President Obama issued a proclamation renaming the day as Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance.

In Memory
On this day, the President directs that the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff and displayed from individual American homes, at the White House, and on all U.S. government buildings and establishments, home and abroad.
The President also asks Americans to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 A.M. (Eastern Daylight Time).

Fatalities
In total, 2,977 fatalities have been reported as a result of the attacks: 2,606 in New York City in the towers and on the ground; 125 at the Pentagon; and 246 on the four planes.

Survivors
According to the 9/11 Commission, approximately 16,000 people were below the impact zones in the World Trade Center complex at the time of the attacks. A large majority of those below the impact areas survived, evacuating before the towers collapsed.

VP40  sends our prayers to all who sacrificed, both past and present, living and deceased.

Thank You U.S. Veterans and Military, along with our firefighters and police. On this Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance – please join us in remembering all who lost their lives on 9/11, along with our many heroes who have and are fighting the War on Terror.

I was notified by Ron Mills that Jerry Holmes  1956-1959 (AD3) passed away on 8/25/2013 from cancer.
