It's not the 4th of July. We don't say "Mervar link = document.getElementById('link2736');link.onclick = function(){document.location = link.getAttribute('href');} ry Dec. 25th". It's INDEPENDENCE DAY.
When legislation of
the holiday was first being planned by Congress, they had no name for it and
referred to it as the 4th of July. That term has always been more common than
the name Independence Day, which was coined slightly later. When Congress created
the 1st Federal holidays in 1870, they wrote,“the first day of
January, commonly called New Year's dayvar link = document.getElementById('link2736');link.onclick = function(){document.location = link.getAttribute('href');} , the fourth
day of July, the twenty-fifth day of December, commonly called Christmas
day, and any day appointed or recommended by the President of the United States
as a day of public fast or thanksgiving.” They referred to the other holidays by their names (yes, including Christmas), but not 4th of July. That shows how uncommon it was to use the name Independence Day.
