I am sorry to announce that Marvin Register passed away on 12/13/2013. He was an LT while serving in VP40 from 1956-1959.

Marvin Odell Register
December 27, 1929 – December 13, 2013 Resided in ., VA
Marvin Odell Register, CDR, USN (Ret.) age 83, died on December 13, 2013 at Warren Memorial Hospital. He was born December 27, 1929 in New Bern, NC, the son of Emmett O. and Frances “Effie” Register. Commander Register retired after a 30 year career as both an enlisted Avionics Technician and a commissioned Naval Aviator; he served as a pilot with anti-submarine squadrons VP-40 and VP-48, flying missions throughout the Pacific, including Vietnam; as a flight instructor at NAS Pensacola; as the Catapult and Arresting Gear officer onboard the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CVS-10); as the Situation Center ADP officer at NATO HQ in Brussels, and as a communications expert on the staff of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. He was held in extremely high regard by his shipmates. After retiring, he volunteered with the Coast Guard Auxiliary. His beloved wife of 55 years, Ethel Register, preceded him in death. Surviving are three children; Mia White, Lou Ann Downs and Dell Register, three sisters; Frances, Ruth and Joyce Ann; and seven grandchildren; Jason, Tyler, Brandon and Melissa Downs and Parker, Chase and Forrest White. Services will be held on January 24, 2014 at 11:30 at the Marine Corps Base Chapel, Quantico, Virginia. Interment with military honors will follow at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Wounded Warrior Project.

I have updated the VP40 Roster as of 12/28/2013.
I have had some corrections from members since the last newsletter. GREAT, keep it up folks, if you have any corrections please let me know.
It is the best way to let me and other members keep in contact with you.

Great Pictures from an airshow at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, in the early 50’s. Note many of the folks, especially many of the ladies, are dressed up!
