Don passed away from a heart attack while in the hospital undergoing tests. Don was one of the group of squadron members that met at the Mexican Village in Coronado to inivar link = document.getElementById('link2736');link.onclick = function(){documentvar link = document.getElementById('link2736');link.onclick = function(){document.location = link.getAttribute('href');} .location = link.getAttribute('href');} tialize a VP-40 reunion. That might have been in 1959 or soon thereafter. Some of the others at that meeting were Chief Humphries, Bill Bettis, Hal Peper, Mike Swall, Frank Bottoms, and Joe Chandler. 
Don was an AT1 while in VP40 from 1956-1959

As of 5/30/2018 I have received responses and payment from 41 people

that will be attending the reunion in Sept this year. I know some of you have told me you will be attending

but have NOT sent me the paperwork and payment to verify this.

It is time to get er done folks .

I am very sorry to report that Joseph Bernard Daugherty Jr (Bernie)  passed away May 3, 2018.

He has had some health issues for a few months and it finally caught up with him. A P5M plane could not get him

but his health did.

Joseph Bernard Daugherty Jr., 76, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Highland Health Care in Highland, IL.

He was born Jan. 19, 1942 in St. Louis, MO to the late Joseph Bernard and Lucille, nee Byrd, Daugherty Sr.

On Jan. 21, 1967, he and Jean Zimmerman were married in Madison, IL, and she survives in Granite City.

Mr. Daugherty was a U.S Navy Vietnam veteran (Aviation Electrician) and aftervar link = document.getElementById('link2736');link.onclick = function(){document.location = link.getAttribute('href');} his military service had been a Quality Insurance Inspector for the Civil Service. He was a member of VP-40 and was the sole survivor of a QE-1 VP-40 crash Aug. 2, 1962 in the Philippines. He had a passion for genealogy and inventing, enjoyed fishing, and was an entrepreneur. He was a strong veterans' advocate, assisting other vets on disability.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons: Devon and Matthew Daugherty; 2 sisters: Donna Carter and Connie Crippen; and his step-father: Wally Crippen.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are 3 sons: Joseph Bernard (Tamara) Daugherty III of St. Louis, MO, John Daugherty of Worden, IL and Gerald Daugherty of San Leon, TX; 6 grandchildren: Brendyn, Megan, Nathan, Katelyn, Erin and Cody; 2 brothers: Bill and Bruce Daugherty; and 3 sisters: Barb Coonce, Bonnie (Kennyvar link = document.getElementById('link2736');link.onclick = function(){document.location = link.getAttribute('href');} ) Hamontree and Beverly (Lee) Asher.

Memorials may be made to Disable American Veterans. Arrangements with online information available at www.wojstrom.com.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory, Granite City, IL.

Funeral: Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.
